Main Room vs Terrace: two rooms, one story beating Since 1976

At Amnesia, everything has a purpose — even the names of our rooms, which tend to confuse first-timers: “Isn’t the Main Room supposed to be the main floor?". Anywhere else, maybe. At Amnesia, history takes the lead.

When the club opened in 1976 and for nearly the entire turn of the century, the Terrace was exactly that: a real, open-air terrace. A space under the sky where clubbers caught their breath between hours and hours of dancing. An oasis of natural light, fresh air, and moments to reset before diving back into the music.

The Main Room was the club’s first enclosed space and, for years, its musical epicentre. A refuge for lovers of the island’s most forward-thinking sounds, where emerging DJs shaped what would later become known as the Balearic Beat.

Although it’s the smaller dancefloor today, it keeps its name as a tribute to its legacy: this is where everything began. An enveloping room that brought together freedom seekers, alternative spirits and the characters who defined Ibiza’s hippie essence. Raw, honest, rebellious — that DNA is still alive in its walls today.

When regulations in 1991 required all parties to move indoors, Amnesia answered with a solution as bold as it was creative: building a glass roof over the Terrace, with a system that could open and close. An innovation that preserved the Terrace’s daytime magic and allowed those unforgettable sunrises to continue — just as they do now.

Today, each space has as clear a role as it does an identity:

Main Room: Ibiza’s Temple of Techno

If you’re looking for power, darkness, heavy basslines and a no-nonsense atmosphere, this is your place. The Main Room is, today, one of the island’s true techno cathedrals: cutting-edge sound, depth, intensity and that feeling of being inside a collective ritual.

Terrace: The Eternal Energy of Ibiza

The Terrace has evolved into one of the most iconic spaces in global clubbing. Nights breathe differently here: lights, sunrises, long blends, the thrill of “it’s daytime and I’m still dancing”, and an atmosphere that makes every body move on the same frequency.

Dancing on Amnesia’s dancefloors is dancing on a living piece of Ibiza’s history.

Dancing here is dancing on decades of freedom

Every time you step into Amnesia, you enter a place where nothing is accidental — not the names, not the rooms, not the energy that hits you the moment the music takes over.

Main Room or Terrace — whichever path you choose, you’re dancing on 50 years of clubbing, culture and freedom.
